| The New
York Adirondack/Vermont Mountain Tour
Experience
some of the most rugged mountain flying east of the Rockies.
Our day-long trip will take us from Buffalo, NY into the foot
hills of the Adirondacks with a quick stop at the
picturesque Piseco (K09) Airport.
Nestled
at the north end of Pesico Lake, its runway 4 requires a
right-hand pattern to avoid steep rising terrain immediately
northwest of the airport.
From
there, we'll fly 60 miles north over increasingly rugged
mountain terrain to the Adirondack Regional Airport in
Saranac Lake. Here, we'll take a lunch break at KSLK's
authentic log-constructed terminal facility.
From
here, we'll fly just 12 miles east to Lake Placid, home to
the 1932 and the 1980 Winter Olympics. Time
permitting, we'll take a leisurely buggy ride around the
famous Mirror Lake. Our departure from Lake Placid
will require a VFR circling climb to clear nearby
surrounding peaks.

Then
it's 50 miles east to the Mad River Valley in Northern
Vermont with a quick stop at Sugarbush Airport in Warren, Vermont.
Located minutes from the Sugarbush Mountain Ski Area, this
is one of the most idyllic settings in the U.S. northeast!

Then we
will fly 36 miles south along the western ridge of Vermont's Green
Mountains to Rutland, Vermont, home to the famous Killington
Ski Area. Here, we'll take another short break as we carefully examine the departure procedures
to
exit this mountainous area enroute back to Buffalo, NY.
What
will we learn?
The NY
Adirondack/Vermont mountain tour will expose us to the
unique challenges of remote airports nestled in narrow valleys
surrounded by rapidly rising terrain.
We
will experience squirrelly winds, unpredictable turbulence, and
challenging arrival and departure procedures. More
importantly, it will expand our comfortable operating
envelopes and prepare
us
for even more challenging future mountain flying over the
Continental Divide and Alaska.
Cost:
$599 (in your airplane); Add $89/hr (dry) if the trip
is done in one of our training aircraft (2005 C-172 G1000
equipped).
